CV Axles and Driveshafts
Your vehicle's axles are responsible for supporting its weight, including any cargo, and handling the forces generated during acceleration and braking. For expert inspection and service of this crucial component, we're here to ensure the safety and reliability of the equipment that transports you and your family.
A drive axle, powered by the engine, consists of two half axles connected by a differential and universal joints. Each half axle is linked to the wheel via a constant velocity (CV) joint, which enables smooth wheel movement by allowing the shaft to rotate while maintaining constant speed with minimal friction and heat. Although CV joints are generally reliable, they still need regular inspections. To check if your axle might need repair, drive slowly in tight circles in a spacious area like a parking lot. If you hear clicking or cracking noises, it indicates a worn joint that requires immediate attention. CV axles also have protective boots the house the grease required to lubricate the universal joints. Quite often these boots rupture or are damaged resulting in grease being slung around onto the underside of the vehicle and will result in premature wear out of the CV joint/axle.
